I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!

We are back safely from a wonderful week of vacation in Florida!! The drive down and back was lots of fun with several stops at interesting points (well, interesting to certain parties)in Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia!

One day was spent at a State Park in Florida looking at the amazing foliage and hunting for alligators and birds and lizards!! We actually found some too....I was not too thrilled about the 'gator, myself!! We drove to the gulf coast and went to the pier at St. Petersburg and also St. Pete's Beach and saw some dolphins playing in the surf around sunset! It was so cool and I was more excited about the cute little dolphins that that 'gator, fer sure!! We also spent a day at Universal Studios riding Revenge of The Mummy and watching Shrek 4-D and then another day at Islands of Adventure riding The Hulk and Dueling Dragons!! I thought I'd be too old to handle the thrill rides but I'm happy to report that I am NOT too old!! In fact, we rode The Mummy 4 times, the Dueling Dragons twice and The Hulk twice!! Yeehaw!!

And of course, EVERY day included shopping of some sort!!! I visited AC Moore, Michaels, Joann's and Hobby Lobby! That was the most fun for me and I came back with lots of stampin' goodies!!

My day today consisted of mounds and mounds of laundry, grocery shopping, organizing my treasures, opening tons of mail and going through about a thousand digital photographs!!! I am going to need to scrap several books of this trip!!! I can't wait to get started!!!

So today I am posting an altered board book that I made a couple of weeks ago. It features pictures from a special evening for my Dad!! He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in our hometown, for being on the Championship Soccer team in 1975!! It was a very special night with our whole family and lots of friends that we hadn't seen in years. I used distressed patterned paper by Cosmo Cricket which I distressed a little more using sandpaper around the edges. I also used ribbon and lots of metal embellishments. I have put it in a place of honour on our buffet and hutch in the livingroom. This was very fun and easy to do. I actually made it in less than an hour!! You can get the premade 'naked' board books in different sizes at your local scrapbooking store!!

MAN, it's good to be home!!!!

Off we go........

Well, we will be leaving for our holidays in less than two hours!! Woohoo!! We are driving to Florida for a week and we couldn't be more excited! It's been almost 8 years since we went on an actual vacation and we're very much looking forward to it!! We deserve it, don'tcha think??

Anyway, we are heading out tonight around 10pm. Al is a truck driver and works straight nights, so he has slept all day and will be fresh to drive all night. The plan is to be in Chattanooga, Tennessee by morning and spend the day doing stuff there including a visit to Ruby Falls and Rock City. I'll be on the lookout for scrappin' and stampin' stores, don't you worry!! We'll stay the night there and head out for Florida on Sunday morning.

I don't know if any of the hotels have computer availability, so this may be my last posting for about 9 days, but if I can check in, I will. If not, I hope you will come back and see me after our vacation!!

I just this minute finished making a Travel Book to document our trip to Florida and back. I don't know about you, but on our trips, hilarious things always happen and funny things are always said and by the time we get back, we're all saying, 'What were we laughing so hard about in Georgia??' or 'What was it that Daddy said at the pool in Orlando??', that sort of thing. So Emileigh and I will be jotting stuff down and doodling little pictures so that we will always remember it!! And of course, we will be taking a MILLION pictures for me to scrap when we get back!!

So here is the book I made! Again, I used a composition notebook from the dollar store and covered it with patterned paper by Deja Views, sanded around the edges and used night of navy cardstock for the binding. I added a charm on some grosgrain ribbon for a bookmark and I HAD to use Beachabella for the main image! I can't wait to fill it up with lots of amazing memories!!

In '06!

Another one of the scrapbooking sites I like that gives me lots of ideas is Two Peas in a Pod and there is where I found the inspiration for this page. It was very difficult for me to do, because I NEVER do sb pages about myself. They are always about my daughter, my family, specific events etc. Never about moi!! So it really challenged me to do this page.

It is called "In '06" and it is a quick overview of important things that happened in my life and my family's life in 2006. I used my FAVE patterned paper, Blush by Basic Grey and some of the new Flirty ribbons from Stampin' Up. I also used some chipboard numbers and the heart frame which I covered in craft ink and let it dry. I used the Blush tag and my Whimsical Alphabet and I put the journaling in bullet form with my favourite white gel pen!!

The journaling reads:
.created about 165 scrapbook pages
.landed the circulation job at the library
.discovered "Bowling for Soup"!! (a new rock band)
.celebrated 11 years as "man and wife"
.our baby graduated Gr. 8 and started high school
.made new friends
.visited Niagara Falls for the millionth time!
.built our deck and fence
.found South Beach and lost 27 pounds!!

It was a lot of fun to create and I'm glad that I did it. I challenge you to step outside of your 'crafting comfort zone' and try something different! Who knows...you might enjoy it!! **wink**

Good morning to ME!!

When I get up in the morning, the first thing I do is turn on the computer. I go downstairs and put the coffee on and by the time I come back upstairs, the computer has booted up and is ready to rock and roll!! Well, this morning when I checked my email, I got a rather exciting one from Craft Critique!! It's this new website where experienced crafters try out new tools and stuff in the crafting industry and let us know what they think of them. SO...they have been working with the new die-cutting system, Cuttlebug by Provocraft and the asked for submissions for their Cuttlebug Carvial!! They wanted projects that were made using the Cuttlebug!! Well, I got an email this morning telling me that they would be using my Inky Turtle card and would be linking it up on their website!! How cool is THAT???!! I was very excited and wanted to share my joy with you!!! Make sure you go and check it out and see what others made with the Cuttlebug (be prepared, you WILL want one) and let me know what you think!!!

Flower Filled Fun!!

One of my all-time favourite stamp sets (I have a few, ya know) is Flower Filled. It is just so cute and quick to use too. And as I've said before, I get a lot of my inspiration from the Splitcoaststampers website. There are sooooooooo many talented chickies there with such creativity, it's unreal!

Well, some of the best things on SCS are the challenges (when I can get to them)!! Each day there is a different type of challenge posted for cardmaking like sketch challenges, colour combos, inspiration etc. Each week on Friday there are three scrapbooking challenges posted and they are a sketch challenge, a theme challenge and a Diva challenge. I get a lot of inspiration and get totally jazzed when I do a challenge!!





These two cards were done using a sketch challenge and my fave stamp set (at that particular moment in time, anyway) and I like it so much that I made two different ones!! I think the blue one is my fave and it got a ton of comments in my gallery on SCS but I love the second one too. Let me know which one you like the best and why not give this layout a try on your next card!!!

Happiness is.... Autumn Leaves!!!!

Autumn Leaves??...you say. It's the middle of winter for pete's sake, Kim!! What's wrong with you? Well, I'll tell ya! Al took me to the scrapbooking store in London yesterday......the expensive one!! And since I don't go there very often, they had a bunch of new stuff since I was there last!! One of the new things was the line of Autumn Leaves clear stamps. I chose the Build a Flower set and decided to play with it tonight.

Ever have one of those days where you just didn't feel creative?? I can hear you all **gasp**!! Well, today was my day. It didn't matter what I did, I just didn't like it! Each step just seemed to make it worse. Then close to the end, I started thinking 'Hey, that's not bad!' and this is what came of my hemming and hawing. And I kinda like it now!

I made a longer card base which fits in the legal sized envelopes, cutting my cardstock to 9" long and 8" wide, folding it in half at 4". Then I decorated the top half with some of the smaller stamps in cool caribbean, pretty in pink and chocolate chip. I used some of the Loves Me patterned paper from SU and used my slit punch to make the scalloped edge for the pink piece. Then I added the chocolate polka dot ribbon and pop dotted the main flower image after doodling around the edges (of course) and gluing some clear beads in the center.

I know some of you will be wondering how to do that scalloped edge thing with the slit punch, so here is a quick shot of how to do it!!



Cut a strip of paper, turn your slit punch upside down so you can see what you're doing! Then, pushing your slit punch as far up the paper as you can, punch the very left hand side and then making sure to overlap the edge of the last punch, punch again! Keep punching until you reach the other side and you will have a pretty scalloped edge!! Super easy and it makes such a pretty addition to your card!! Give it a whirl! I'd love to see any cards or scrapbook pages you make using this technique!!

The Weekend is Here!!!

It's Saturday morning and I am busy preparing for my first-ever scrapbooking workshop!! I have taught many, many card workshops and stamp camps but never a completely scrappin' class. I was asked to teach this class for a Women's Day for the YWCA here in my hometown and of course I quickly agreed! The challenge for me was that the class could only be an hour and a half long as there are several sessions during the day.

So I had to do a big of thinking (yes, it was painful)! I had to come up with a project that even beginners could complete in that time frame. I didn't want to do just a two-page layout which could easily be done in 90 minutes because then these people would be going home with two pages and nothing to put them in as I am expecting most of these people to be newbies! SO, I decided on the paperbag scrapbook!!



I spent my day off this week cuttin' and cuttin' and packaging everything in baggies ready for the ladies. I also did up little baggies which include all the embellishments like big star brads, small brads, prepunched squares and circles, ribbon, fibre, tags, buttons and a charm. Whew! It was a lot of work but hopefully that way they will be able to complete the book in the time frame!

ALSO, I wanted to mention how excited I was to be asked by Cindy Lou Who to be her first-ever Featured Scrapbook Artist!! I was really flattered and totally stoked when she approached me!! So I did up a little writeup about myself (that was kinda hard) and I created a special 12x12 scrapbook page especially for her which she revealed a couple of days ago!! Welcome to the Sistahood!!!

The mailman was good to me today!! He brought me some new stamps!!! I went down to the mailbox (and let me tell ya, it was windy and freeeeeeezing) and I ran all the way back!!! My Bella girls arrived and I was so excited, I was shaking.....or was that the cold?? My fellow Bellaholics would say it was the stamps!! Heehee!

And since some of you ladies have been asking for a cardmaking tutorial, I figured I would start out with an easy one (and that would also allow me to play with my new toys, *wink*)!! Someone asked me how I decide what colours to use and what paper to use etc. So here is a little blurb on how I made this particular card!!



Firstly I picked out my new Sistahoodabellas (ain't they cute with their stylin' clothes and their handy little stamps?) Then I chose the patterned paper that I wanted to use on this card. I picked this very colourful geometric pattern by DCWV and then chose matching Stampin' Up markers. I stamped the image with Black Stazon on Whisper White cardstock and coloured in the Bellas!



Recently when I've been stamping my cards, my big decision is 'to doodle, or not to doodle' and most times the answer is 'to doodle'! It's my favourite embellishment right now and it's sooooooo easy. It just takes a little practice! I used a fine tip black pen to do my little scribbles. I think it just finishes the image off nicely. Give it a try on your next card!

I chose Certainly Celery for the base and Cool Caribbean as the mat for the main image. Then I used some really cool chunky 'ribbon' (for lack of a better word) that I found at the $ store today!! The colour was perfect and I love to add chunky embellishments to my projects to add dimension. I also added 3 pink brads on the right hand side, added a tag with the 'sistahs' sentiment (which comes with the stamp along with another one) and popped up the whole central image.



I think they are BELLALICIOUS!!!!!!!!!1

What Does Your Candy Heart Say?

Scrappin' ............. my first love!

I had a chance to do a little scrappin' over the weekend so I pulled out my envelope of enlarged photos. When I get my digitals printed, I pick out my fave photos and get them enlarged to 5x7's and keep them in a separate container. When I feel like doin' a single page layout, I grab my envelope and pick out a special one!!

I LOVE these photos of Emileigh holding our dog, Daisy!! What a pair of wingnuts! Well, actually it was just Emmy. Poor Daisy couldn't do much about the dressin' up, now could she??!!These pics were obviously at Christmastime (note the deer antlers and Santa hat...heehee) but Emileigh has on a pink sweatshirt so that made finding the paper a little challenging. BUT of course I pulled out my trusty Basic Grey papers and found the Dasher line which has Christmas colours but also PINK!! I used a couple of patterns together and used my Cuttlebug for the hearts and also I embossed the Friend folder in Real Red and cut out the words to put on the corners of the pics. One says 'giggle' and one says 'silly'. I used some red gingham and a hand made tag and also the Basic Grey cardstock stickers for the title. I also put E&D down at the corner of the bottom picture. For the finishing touches I used grosgrain ribbon, a round, metal embellishment that says happy holidays and two square metal brads from the $ store in the top corners!

My Tower 'O Ribbon!!!!!!!!!

Okay. So I like ribbon.........A LOT!!!!!! And I have been trying for AGES to find a great way to store them and nothing ever really worked for me. Some people have a nice trough-like thing to keep them in or a special rack that they ordered online or that someone crafty made them (don't even ASK about my husband and woodworking....that's a whole other blog!!), some people have them all thrown in a bag or box and then have to dig for the right one when they need it. A really pretty way I've seen lately is to wrap them around clothespins with each end in the clip part and then put in some glass jars and it looks VERY pretty. But for me, that's just not functional. I would be diggin' to the bottom of the things every time I needed a ribbon, because you KNOW it would be at the very bottom EVERY time!! So I am always on the lookout for an organized way to store my ribbon (yes, there is rather a lot of it..........but I use it ALL, Mom!! hahaha)

So this weekend I found some cute, functional and totally inexpensive containers to keep my ribbons in!! AND you can do it too, because I found them at Walmart!! They are these adorable little CD/DVD crate thingies that I found in the plastic container aisle with all the rubbermaid and stuff. They are made by Sterilite and they stack one on top of each other either the way I have them displayed or on their sides with the open space facing out. Know what I mean?? And the best part is that they have holes on all sides so that you can put your spools of ribbon in there and feed it through the holes, all ready to go!!! No wait!! The BEST part actually is that they are only $1.77CDN EACH!! Totally cheap!! So it took me about an hour and a half to organize it all but ain't it PURDY??? I put regular sized spools on the bottoms of each of them and small ones on the top row of each container so that I could stack another crate on top.

You'll also notice that I have a couple of clear glass jars on either side of the tower. One has prima flowers in it and one has bits and pieces of ends of ribbon. Those jars are from some candles that I burned down and cleaned out. I want to get some more, but I can't remember where I got them. They have cute designs on them. One has hearts, one has snowflakes, etc. And I actually keep all my SU ribbon in the SU ribbon and accessories holders, 'cause I like to keep them separate, plus the spools are bigger.

Anyhoo, that's my Tower 'O Ribbon and I'm really happy with it. Hope it inspires you to organize your ribbon.........and make ya wanna buy some more.........I do!!! Baahaahahahaaa!!

Alter It!!!

So I was cleaning and reorganizing my stamp room this weekend, as I often do, and I came upon some notebooks that I had purchased at the dollar store before Christmas. I had great intentions of altering them and decorating them to give as gifts, but I ran out of time........can you relate?? When I found them today, I thought it was time to play with one.

The pink one was the first one I ever did and I actually did it for Emileigh a little while ago for a VSN challenge on Splitcoast and I was a runner up for the category. It is perfect for Emmy-Lou, so girly and PINK!! The one I did today is actually for the daughter of a woman I work with at the library. Her name is Emily (what a coinkydink!) and she is just like me....a lover of all things TINK!! We both have Tinkerbell floor mats and steering wheel covers in our cars...how funny is that?!

If you've never done an altered notebook before, they are super easy! Like I said, you can pick them up at any dollar store, so they are inexpensive too!! Just select the patterned paper you'd like to use, trace the book and cut it out. I used plain paper on the back, so just pick a matching colour and then also a matching strip to use as the binding. Adhere all the pieces with double sided sticky tape (the stickiest stuff is best), then decorate as desired! I like to put a monogram letter on the ones I have done but you could put 'Our Trip', 'My Diary', 'My Thoughts' ... whatever you like! Your alphabet stamps are great for this. I love the Prima Flowers, so I made sure to add those to both books. I also added a bookmark with a charm at the bottom to the Tinkerbell one, along with stickles on the 'e' and in the centers of the flowers! Super easy and it took me about an hour.....it really shouldn't take that long but I like to obsess over things!!

So if you haven't altering anything before, a notebook is a quick and easy thing to try! Let me know if you've done this before or if you decide to give it a try!!! I'd love to hear all about it!!

Bee Mine!!!

Well, Valentine's Day is just around the corner!! Have you made all your Valentine's yet?? I like to make them for the little kiddies in my life!! Here is one I made using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I actually got my colour inspiration from this funky patterned paper by KI Memories. So I started by embossing the bee and hearts image on whisper white cardstock, drew over the embossed image with my SU markers and coloured it in. Then I doodled (looooooove to doodle) around the edge, stamped 'bee mine' with a Michael's $ stamp and distressed the edges of the pink mat. I used an SU background stamp, some pink ric rac, and pop dotted the hearts from Like it a Latte.

So I'm still havin' tons of fun playing with my Bellas! Today I didn't have to work until 1pm, so I had a little 'me' time and I played with my new toyz!! I grabbed a sheet of American Crafts patterned paper, ran it through the Cuttlebug using the Bloom Dots folder and used some of my FAVOURITE ribbon, also by American Crafts! I hoard the stuff so it was hard to break the seal on that ribbon, I tell ya! Then I stamped StampingBella with black Stazon on whisper white cardstock and coloured her in with SU markers! I doodled around the main image and pop dotted her, then I made some tags using my Cuttlebug diecuts and stamped 'heart 2 stamp' on them and pop dotted them too. Then I used the Cuttlebug again (yes, I am enjoying it immensely) to make the different sized splotches and layered them in the corner! Hope ya like her!

Inky Turtles!!

A swell pal o' mine sent me some stamped images a while back (thanks CLW) so tonight I decided to play with one. This one is an Inky Antics turtle, I think. I haven't seen any of them in Canada, so I have to rely on my US buddies to send me some!! *wink, wink* I used my prisma pencils and mineral spirits to colour it, sketching the grass underneath the turtle with a felt tip pen and doodling around the image. I ran the patterned paper through my Cuttlebug using the D'vine Swirl embossing folder and mounted it on a square white card. I found some cool ribbon that I hadn't even opened yet which seems to go with the colours on this card. It is like a thick twill that I got in the $ bin at Michael's many moons ago. Then I added another Michael's stamp for the sentiment, a flower brad, a giant prima and pop dotted the image. Totally quick and easy!! And don'tcha just LOVE this little guy?? He really makes me smile....hope he makes you smile too!!

Good mornin'!!

Good mornin', good mornin'! It's great to stay out late, good mornin', good mornin' to you!!! Okay, I'm not exactly Debbie Reynolds when I sing, but you get the idea!! Singin' in the Rain is my all time favourite musical and I sing that song a lot, it's so cute!

Last night Emileigh and I went out for a girls night. Once every couple of months, I go out to dinner and the movies with a bunch of girls and last night Emileigh came with us for the first time and we had a lot of fun! I mean, she is almost 15 for pete's sake! So went and saw Catch and Release with Jennifer Garner and it was a real chick flick!! We always go see a romantic comedy that we KNOW the men will never see with us! And it was a real sappy, yet FUNNY comedy. (Also we made another run to Michael's...ya know....since we were in London and all!)

OH!! Some of you had asked that I get Feedblitz so that you can subscribe to my blog!! Well, it took me a big to figure out exactly how to do that....but with the help of my good friend Cindy Lou, I got it added last night! So now you can subscribe, so that whenever I put up a new posting, it will automatically notify you in your email!!! How cool is that?? That way you will never miss a new project, tutorial or just my silly blurbs!!

Today I thought I would show you a project that I made for my parents for Christmas. I purchased a chipboard accordian from my local scrapbook store, covered it with Melissa Frances patterned paper which I sanded around the edges and added some charms, some metal words like 'joy' and some vintage stickers. The pictures I am really happy with. I was fiddling around with my new digital camera that I got from my honey for Christmas (actually before Christmas, heehee) and I like the pictures taken with natural light the best. So one day Emileigh was sittin' on the couch, doin' the teenage thing and I grabbed the camera and started shooting her with just the light coming in from the window. I made her laugh and make serious faces and I got a bunch of different shots. I picked out my faves, cropped them down to 3x3 squares and adhered them to the accordian at jaunty angles!! And voila! Now it's a lovely decoration that Mom has displayed on a shelf! Something like this makes a great gift! Now I need to make one for myself!!

How Exciting!!

WOW!! I only started this blog thing last night and I've had such a good response and some super comments in only a few hours! Really makes a girl feel good, ya know??

Okay enough of the sappy talk!! I'm workin' at the library today at my new job in the information department. It is a challenging position but I'm learning a lot and not feeling so totally overwhelmed anymore. There are lots of questions on a daily basis and I'm starting to learn how to find everything. But Thursday night I work by myself.....with no one else there in my department to help me if I get stuck!! Eek! We'll see what happens.

I thought I would post one of my most recent layouts for ya today. I generally do chronological albums, two page-spreads and I am up to when Emileigh is about 12, so I'm only oh...3 years behind. Ha! I have started to try and step out of my scrappin' box and do single pages with one main image as the focus and I'm really likin' it! I've been taking my fave photos and enlarging them to either a 5x7 or an 8x10. Here is one I did a little while ago for a 'girlie' challenge! Well, if you know me or my daughter, you KNOW we are girlie, so it wasn't too much of a stretch! I used a closeup photo of her, enlarge it to a 5x7 and I used Basic Grey Lilykate papers with just a few embellishments. I used some metal photo corners, some Prima flowers, the Basic Grey undressed chipboard for the 'g' and some giant ric rac to finish it off! I love layering coordinating papers and of course, BG has some great patterned papers!

So don't be afraid to try something new. If you see a technique, style or trick you think might be fun, it probably is!! Just give it a whirl! Try new things and be creative!! Have a wonderful day!!

Well I did it!!!

A number of my krafty friends have been tellin' me to jump on the bloggin' bandwagon and get one of my own!! I enjoy reading other people's blogs, I love sharing my love of stampin' and scrappin', so what the hey!!! So I've taken the plunge!!

Now I only created this blog, like 5 minutes ago, so give me a little time to get used to all this new fangled bloggin' stuff and I'll see what I can come up with!! I not so good at the 'pooter stuff!!

One of my latest obssessions is StampingBella!! They are the cutest, most adorable stamps I have come across and they are Canadian, for pete's sake!! Here is the latest card I have created using Javabellas, a $ stamp from Michael's, some Prima flowers, Stampin' Up cardstock and Basic Grey Blush patterned papers! I loves my Basic Grey and the colours are my favourites, pinks and chocolates!! I stamped the image with black Stazon ink, coloured it in with my trusty SU markers, doodled around the image (I'm gettin' a little better at that now) and pop dotted the image!! I'm pretty happy with it and I've gotten a lot of comments on it in my gallery on Splitcoast (my fave website). Anyhoo, let me know if ya like it....if ya don't, well.....just lie!!!
